Carver – 2021

Beginning in 1994, the Brink Technologies Group began developing a three wheeled vehicle aimed at addressing the issue of traffic and wasted space on the road. The concept of a narrow vehicle was fueled by research showing that the majority of cars in urban areas were used to transport only 1 or 2 people. In theory this would increase demand for a small scooter-like car for commutes and short drives. The Carver was developed to meet this need with a body barely wider than the drivers space and enough space for two people. By the early 2000’s they had produced 24 turbocharged 660cc 5 speed Vanderbrink Carver 1s.

Development of the later electric Carver was completed in 2017 and preorders began the next year. It is much more tame that the Carver 1, focused entirely on city commuting. The Carver R operates much like any regular car, it is controlled with a steering wheel and pedals and the electric motor means there is no need for shifting. Its true technological charm comes with the Dynamic Vehicle Control System (DVC). The DVC automatically adjusts the body of the Carver in relation to the direction it is turning, ensuring that it is always in balance and therefore won’t tip over in sharp turns. Switching to “R” mode allows for more torque and higher turn angle but notably does not increase the top speed.
