Mando Footloose-2012

mando-footloose-2012.JPG

The Footloose is a collaboration between Korean automotive manufacturer Mando and British bicycle designer Mark Sanders. It is a hybrid electric bicycle, storing energy developed by pedaling in an internal lithium-ion battery. Mas-Design, Mark Sander’s website, claims this is the world’s first chainless bicycle. Rather than using a chain, mechanical energy from pedaling is converted to electrical energy via an alternator and is then fed directly to the battery. The battery has an 18-mile range, which can be extended considerably by pedaling, and a top speed of 15mph. It also folds for easy storage and transportation.
