Renault Twingo – 1993

Beloved by many, including Lane Motor Museum’s collection management team, the first generation Renault Twingo is fast becoming a collector’s car. The Twingo was unveiled at the 1992 Paris Auto Show as Renault’s new city car, a class of small passenger cars defined by the European Commission.

The Twingo is popular for its simplicity and ruggedness, offering only what the driver needs in a car. Information usually found in a gauge cluster is displayed on a single small digital screen on the dash. Initial models did not feature air conditioning; instead, fresh air was fed directly to the cabin through the grill on the hood.

Renault built the Twingo continuously for nearly three decades before ending the production of the third generation Twingo in 2021. Twingo fans around the world rejoiced when Renault unveiled the Twingo E-Tech, a modern electric version, in November 2025 with styling cues taken directly from the first generation design.
