MINI Cooper S – 2002

Prior to 2002, a Mini branded car had not been solid in the United States since 1967. When BMW purchased Rover Group and the Mini brand in 1994, they looked at revitalizing the Mini which had been produced largely unchanged since 1959 and bringing it back to the US market.

The new generation of Mini was received well for its retro styling and agility. Initially sold only as a two door hatch, it could be had as the standard 115 Cooper or the more expensive and sportier Cooper S. It also benefitted from the release of the 2003 remake of The Italian Job which saw three MINI Cooper S cars racing through Venice and Los Angeles.

The first generation of new Mini was sold in the United States from 2002-2006. In the last two decades BMW has successfully marketed the MINI in a variety of configurations including a hatch, convertible, coupe, wagon/crossover.
