Brütsch Mopetta- 1957

Egon Brütsch was a serial car inventor and producer. From 1952-1958 Egon designed and built 11 different models of cars, although total production of those models was only about 80 cars. The Mopetta, nicknamed “the little egg” was one of the smallest.

With a tubular steel frame and fiberglass body, the scooter-powered Mopetta shares many of the same unusual controls as the scooters of the era. On the right side of the handlebars there is a twist grip throttle and a front brake lever; the left side incorporates a clutch lever and a twist type gear selector (no reverse). Mechanical rear brakes are controlled through a foot pedal.

A top was available as an option but had to be taken down to get in or out of the vehicle. The rumor was Egon designed the Mopetta in one day. Considering the small size and lack of practicality, it’s no surprise that the car did not sell well. Very few originals exist, although there have been many replicas made of this car.
