Friday, July 7, 2017--

  1. Group 1: 9:00am-12:00pm Registration Now Open!
  2. Group 2: 1:30pm-4:30pm Registration Now Open!

Here's how it works!

Optional Event Tshirt

Each group will have a maximum of 10 drivers and each driver may bring one guest passenger at no additional cost. If you wish to have your second person also serve as a driver, you will have the option to add a second driver for an additional $175 after completing your initial registration (still a max of 2 people per registration).

When registering a spot for the event, each driver will be given a place in line based on the order that the registration was received. Cars will be selected on the event day on a first-come, first-served basis. This means that the first to register a place in the event will also be the first to pick the car of their choice on the event day! Registrants can choose from one of these 14 cars on the event day.

After selecting vehicles, each driver will receive a lesson in how to operate their vehicle from a member of the museum staff. Please be aware this is not a lesson in driving a manual transmission so drivers should be proficient in this skill prior to event day! After the training sessions are complete, everyone will line up and enjoy a drive of approximately 25 miles round trip to Percy Priest Lake and back. After returning to the museum, all participants will receive a private tour of the museum vault. The museum vault is a private area where the museum stores over 300 additional cars when they aren't on display! All participants will also receive wristbands that grant access to visit the museum exhibit area (either before or after their event)!

Day of Event Schedule (All events are rain or shine!):

  • Vehicle Selection (Click to see the 14 cars you can choose from!)
Remember, car selection priority is based on registration order! First to register gets first choice of cars on event day!
  • Vehicle Operation Lesson
Drivers should be proficient in driving a manual transmission!
  • Enjoy the drive!
Approximately 25 miles to Percy Priest Lake and back.
  • Private tour of the museum vault!
Enjoy a guided visit to the museum vault where we store an additional 300+ cars!

Before or after your LMM Driving Experience group (depending on if you are in the morning or afternoon group).

The cost of registration is $247 for non-members and $225 for current members of Lane Motor Museum. Each driver may bring one guest passenger at no additional cost. If you wish to have your second person also serve as a driver, you will have the option to add a second driver for an additional $175 after completing your initial registration (still a max of 2 people per registration). All participants will also have the option to purchase a commemorative event t-shirt for $15 and add or renew a museum membership for 50% off the normal cost of membership!

Friday, July 7, 2017--

  1. Group 1: 9:00am-12:00pm Registration Now Open!
  2. Group 2: 1:30pm-4:30pm Registration Now Open!

NOTE:  If you arrive at the registration page after registration has begun and find that it is marked as private or not accepting submissions, it's very likely that this event has sold out. We will update the status on the main website for this event as soon as possible.

A Few Important Notes:

  • Drivers must be age 25 or older and guests must be age 13 or older (no exceptions).
  • Payment in full will be due at the time of registration. The event fee is non-refundable and will only be returned if the driver is rejected or in the case of an emergency.
  • As part of the registration process, all drivers will be required to submit a copy of their driver's license and proof of insurance and must agree that our insurer, Hagerty Insurance, may check their driving record for the past 3 years. Lane Motor Museum and Hagerty reserve the right to reject any driver from participation. A DUI/DWI offense during this three year period is an automatic rejection so please do not register if you have this in your history.
  • Drivers will have until three days after the initial registration to submit these materials or the registration will be cancelled, a refund will be issued, and any interested parties on the wait list will be given a chance to register.
  • This is a rain or shine event.
  • ALL PARTICIPANTS including both drivers and guest passengers, will be required to sign a participation waiver. This will be done at the beginning of the event during check-in, prior to the start of the event.
  • Experience driving a manual transmission is important for this event. If you aren't already, it's important that drivers find a way to become proficient before arriving for the event since these can be difficult cars to learn on.
  • Lane Motor Museum reserves the right to deny any participant the right to drive if we believe the driver is unable to operate the vehicle in a manner that is safe and will not cause damage to the future operability of the vehicle.
  • We will make all efforts to make the cars listed available for each event day but old cars can break unexpectedly, so we reserve the right to make subsitutions if necessary.

Join us on Friday, April 26 from 6-9pm as we welcome a very special guest who will be visiting from France to speak at our member's reception – Claude Guéniffey, president of the Helica Club and the world's foremost expert on propeller-driven cars and Marcel Leyat. Claude is the person who found the original plans and thousands of other documents in Meursault, France in 2004. Since then, Claude has put on five exhibits (all in France) focusing on Marcel Leyat.

2013 is the 100th Anniversary of Leyat's first propeller-driven car. In recognition of that milestone Claude is creating an exhibit for Lane Motor Museum about Marcel Leyat's achievements. This will be a very rare opportunity to see Claude's presentation in the U.S.

In honor of our special guest we will be serving an assortment of European wine & cheese!

Lane-1936-Delahaye-wcreditWe are proud to be part of an amazing new exhibit coming this summer to the Frist Center in downtown Nashville! Sensuous Steel: Art Deco Automobiles is an exhibition of Art Deco automobiles from some of the most renowned car collections in the United States.

Inspired by the Frist Center’s historic Art Deco building, this exhibition will feature spectacular automobiles and motorcycles from the 1930s and ‘40s that exemplify the classic elegance, luxurious materials, and iconography of motion that characterizes vehicles influenced by the Art Deco style.

Special reciprocal offer: Throughout the run of Sensuous Steel, Nashville's Frist Center and the Lane Motor Museum will offer reciprocal admission discounts when tickets stubs are presented. Just bring your ticket stub from whichever museum you visit first to the other museum, and receive a discount (half-price discount at the Frist Center, and $3 discount at Lane Motor Museum).

Fascination with automobiles transcends age, gender, and environment.  While today automotive manufacturers often strive for economy and efficiency, there was a time when elegance reigned.  Influenced by the Art Deco movement that began in Paris in the early 1920s and propelled to prominence with the success of the International Exposition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in 1925, automakers embraced the sleek new streamlined forms and aircraft-inspired materials, creating memorable automobiles that still thrill all who see them. The exhibition will feature 18 automobiles and two motorcycles from some of the most important collectors and collections in the United States.

Sensuous Steel is organized for the Frist Center by guest curator Ken Gross, former director of the Petersen Automotive Museum. Gross served as guest curator for The Allure of the Automobile, a nationally acclaimed exhibition displayed at Atlanta’s High Museum of Art in 2010; additionally, he developed a revised version of the exhibition for the Portland Art Museum the following year. Most recently, Gross curated Speed: The Art of the Performance Automobile exhibited at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts in Salt Lake City and the opening exhibition for LeMay–America’s Car Museum in Tacoma, Wash. A highly respected automotive journalist for over 40 years, Gross writes for numerous publications including  AutoWeek, Playboy, Hagerty’s Magazine, Sports Car Market, Motor Trend Classic, Popular Mechanics, msnautos.com, Old Cars Weekly, and The Rodder’s Journal. A noted authority on automobiles, he has judged at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance for 24 years. Gross also judges at the Amelia Island Concours and was the Chief Judge at the Rodeo Drive Concours d’Elegance. Additionally, Gross has received many awards including the 2009 IAMA Lifetime Achievement Award, the 2009 Lee Iacocca Award, the 2008 Washington Auto Press “Golden Quill Award,” the Society of Automotive Historians’ “Cugnot Award,” and “The James Valentine Memorial Award” for excellence in automotive historical research.

An illustrated catalogue will accompany the exhibition.
