Matra Simca Bagheera S Coupè- 1975

Matra Simca Bagheera S Coupè- 1975

In 1969, Matrasports was taken over by Simca which became fully Chrysler-owned in 1970. The Bagheera was introduced in 1973. It has a Simca engine inclined and mounted transversely at the rear, power-assisted disc brakes, and all-independent suspension. The fiberglass coupè body sits on an ungalvanized steel spaceframe. Notice the unusual seating of three in a row–a typical seat for the driver and a two-person bench seat next to it. Apart from their road cars, Matra made a very successful career in racing. This car was Matra’s highest volume production car. With a fiberglass body, it weighs about 1,950 pounds.
