Cub Commuter- 1982

The 1982 Cub Commuter was produced by Taiwanese company Swi Tong Corporation, specifically for import to the U.S. market via Convenient Machines, Inc. Marketed as the “ultimate in drivability and convenience,” the Commuter’s aerodynamic design and lightweight fiberglass body contributed to its impressive fuel efficiency of 80 mpg and a top speed of 55 mph. Powered by a single-cylinder, 400cc, air-cooled engine paired with a 3-speed manual transmission, the Commuter was designed to carry two passengers.
Weighing just 600 pounds, it was a compact and efficient alternative to traditional cars. Despite its practicality, the Commuter struggled to gain significant market traction due to its limited top speed and unconventional design. Its small size and economy-focused features made it a unique and innovative option during the early 1980s.
