Jensen Interceptor MK-III- 1973

Over the years, there has been a fascination with fitting big American engines in lightweight British cars.  The Interceptor line began in 1949, and came with an English chassis, an Italian body, and a variety of engines.  The Mk III’s most distinctive styling feature is the large, glass, fastback hatch.  It was lavish inside – passengers were surrounded by leather seats and wool carpets.  Not only was the Interceptor luxurious, it was also fast - powered by an American Chrysler v-8 engine.  When Road & Track tested one in 1970, they found that its huge v-8 was capable of accelerating from zero to 60 mph
in 7.1 seconds.  In addition to luxury and speed, Jensen also featured advanced technology, pioneering the use of anti-lock brakes.  Jensen Motors Ltd. failed in 1976, a victim of increasing competition and spiraling production costs.  The Mk III was built from 1974-76 with a total of 327 being produced (63 of which were black).
