The next major version of the Fiat 500 to be released was the “Giardiniera.” Introduced in 1960, this was an estate version, with a stretched wheelbase and a horizontally mounted engine. Although the engine was similar to the normal Fiat 500, to make the engine fit below the floor it had to be “laid down.” This increased the power output slightly and increased the top speed.
