D.A.F. stands for Vandoorne’s AutomobielFabriek. The first D.A.F. car went into production in 1959. It was produced with a step-free variomatic-transmission, a fully automatic system using a centrifugal clutch and a v-belt drive with a limited slip differential. With only a forward-and-reverse lever, the D.A.F. was one of the easiest cars to drive at the time. A pickup was produced in the D.A.F. 33, although not in large numbers. This vehicle is actually a custom-made truck, modified from a D.A.F. 33 car body. The company was sold to Volvo in 1975.
