The principal derivative of the Fiat Nuevo 500 was the Autobianchi. A chic, upmarket product conceived in parallel with the Fiat 500, the Autobianchi firm was part-owned (and later fully-owned) by Pirelli and Fiat.

A testament to the adaptability of the Fiat 500 platform, this apparently homebuilt homage to coachbuilder Giannini’s Camioncino (translation: pickup truck) is itself based on the Fiat 500K Giardiniera (wagon).

One year after the introduction of the Fiat 600, another version was introduced–possibly the first minivan–the Multipla (which means “all service”). This vehicle had three rows of seats for a total capacity of six people, the two rear pairs of seats could be folded into the floor, leaving a large flat loading area.

Introduced in July 1957, the successor for the “Topolino,” the “Nuova (which means “new”) 500" used a layout similar to that seen on the 600 with a rear mounted engine driving the rear wheels and independent suspension on all four wheels.

Ferdinand Innocenti’s company started in 1931 as a major steel tubing manufacturer. His patented “Innocenti pipe” is still used in scaffolding today. Before the war, the company also developed heavy press machinery. After World War II, Innocenti was mainly known for their Lambretta scooters until they began production of a license-built Austin A40 in 1960.

Ferruccio Lamborghini was a manufacturer of air conditioning and tractors. Legend tells he bought a Ferrari but was not satisfied with it. When his complaints were dismissed, he vowed to make a better car.

Lancia’s Ardea model was replaced by the Appia in 1953, which remained in production for ten years. Produced in three Series during its run, improvements along the way included a larger trunk, larger rear glass, longer wheelbase, more power, and a larger bench seat.

The Ardea, introduced in 1939, was a “luxury utility” model a size down from its big brother, the Aprillia. The car is similar in layout, but simpler in design, with a solid rear axle and no trunk opening.

But in 1998, they announced that with restructuring, they were able to continue long-term production. To demonstrate what they were capable of, they introduced the F4.
