Honda Motor Co. traces its automobile roots back to 1959.  The s800 was introduced to the world at the 1965 Tokyo Motor Show, and would replace the successful s600.  Like the s600, it was available as either a coupe or roadster.  What made it different was the displacement increase and significant styling changes to both the front and rear of the car.  The s800 was offered to compete with the spitfire and sprite.  The s800 reached 100 mph and still boasted 35 mpg.  In 1968, Honda introduced the s800m version aimed at the American market.  Changes were made, such as leaner carburetion, safety glass, and tail light configurations.  But no s800s were ever officially imported into the U.S. and  the changes were in vain.  New safety and emissions regulations were being introduced and the s800 did not measure up.  Without the support of the American market, Honda ceased production of the s800.
