Buick Speedster- 1922

This vehicle, originally owned by Tom Coad, participated in the 1996-2002 Great Race–a rally in which 100 pre-1960s vehicles travel 4,000 miles over some of the most beautiful back roads in America competing for bragging rights and prize money.  Each day, drivers and navigators carefully follow a set course while competing in a time-speed-distance race over all kinds of terrain in every kind of weather imaginable.  Each speed change, start, and turn is detailed in the instructions.  The object is to match a perfect time established by the rally master.  To increase the challenge, no electrical devices of any kind are allowed in the car and the odometer is removed.  Racers may use a wristwatch, speedometer, and paper and pencil to charge their miles.  A perfect score is zero–documented by a silver “Ace” award (as seen on this car).  As in golf, low score wins.
